Bag Lady

Bag Lady, Bag Lady,
so full of cares and woes.

Sing to me, bring to me,
your sadly happy days.

Bag Lady, Bag Lady,
in worn and tattered dress.

Walk with me, talk with me,
and tell me of your loves.

Bag Lady, Bag Lady,
whose face is gaunt and thin.

Sigh with me, cry with me,
as we remember them.

Bag Lady, Bag Lady,
with softly smiling eyes.

Dine with me, dance with me,
beyond this dirty street.

Bag Lady, Bag Lady,
it's time to let you go.

We lay you down to rest
and give you peace again.

This hits a spot

I was in Vancouver and walked among the homeless

I shared the soup pot, we stood together fighting for the Woodward building

in which they were living ... The government was throwing them out.

It is all hazy now, but I thought, these people are you and me, our children, our mothers,

how come society looks down their nose at them?

Some of them made poor choices they had homes and food one day

and nothing the next.

It may very well be me one day.

Nice write! I've never seen a bag lady, or a homeless person for that matter.. there really aren't any where I live. Which I think says much about the people here.. mostly when someone is down on their luck friends/family take them in. It's way too cold to leave people out on the street here.. -40C quite often in winter. Your poem nicely captures something I've never seen myself, so that I almost feel I have seen it.

Hey BF. This is a great write, but I'm biased because the homeless are a past ministry of mine, plus I am an amazingly blessed example of "There, but for the Grace of God, go I!" I have tended to guys whose story was IDENTICAL to my own, except that I was pretty ensconced in a solid job by the time of my accident. And they were NOT abusers...of substance or system; they were, quite to the contrary, abused by the system. THAT is why I say I'm a "blessed example"...I WAS an addict/alcoholic...and all that buffered me from that ill effect was the timing that makes Grace and Tender Mercy in your life so obvious...tangible!

The compassion in this write is admirable and commendable; it reflects so well on you!
