The post above is pretty good, although it doesn't go into the detail of the composition of a haiku so much as the structure.

In addition to the physical structures (correctly) described above, a haiku should have a distinct grammatical break after the first or second line; and should also reference nature - specifically, evoke a season - in its composition. For example:

the first cold shower;

even the monkey seems to want

a little coat of straw.

When we examine the poem, "the first cold shower" is a reference to the first cold rain of winter, and there is a semi-colon after the first line, providing the required grammatical break, while the other two lines run together.

Hope this helps!

Haiku poems are the easiest. It's a three line poem in which the first line has 5 syllables, the second has 7, and the third has five once again. They are also usually about nature.. The point is to capture an image and feeling to the reader in 17 syllables. Remember you can only have 5 in the first 7 in the second and 5 in the third. Be creative. =)

first of all a haiku is a poem from japan composing of 3 lines.. the 1st line should contain only 5 syllables the second should contain only 7 and the third one should only contain 5... like this

the bird flying high

its song sung beautifully

along the moonlight

hope this helps!! :)

by the way the second answer has more than enough syllables so that's wrong

It's good to see someone who wants to learn to write poetry in classical forms. For all the forms you asked about, go to the site below & look up each form - haiku, sonnet, etc. This site will greatly reward your study.
