Hi everyone! I am going to be taking a creative writing class this Fall semester (sophomore in college). I went on ratemyprofessor.com and looked up the reviews of the professor. One thing I noticed in almost every comment is that she does have her students write petty, and that she is very critical and will even rip up you paper write there when she reads it.
I have wrote a few poems in the past few years, but to be honest I think they are pretty bad. I would love to write really good poetry, but I am not exactly sure how. So, can you please give me any advice, tips, etc.?
Thank you all so much!

To write good poetry you must first feel it. The most uneducated inarticulate individual can write very powerful poetry if they say what they feel in the only words they know. Poetry is nothing more than emotion portrayed in as few words as is necessary. If you can give the syllables rhythm, sprinkle some alliteration and simile along with some onomatopoeia in for colour all the better but get to the emotion before you write or you write gibberish.

I'm in the Fall semester and a senior in retirement. I also Love Creative Writing and I am also a beginner.

I believe this is as good a place to learn how to write Poetry as any school has to offer. There are some very helpful and experienced people here and there are lessons of all kinds available at any hour and the entertainment is Priceless.

P.S. It also helps to be a creative reader.

For every poem you write, you should read 100.
