Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on that sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

read about Dylan Thomas' father whom he wrote the poem for, even though he said he could never show him.

1 - The speaker means that men (or all humans) should fight against imminent death. The poem uses examples of wise, good, wild and grave men to make this point: that regardless of how we have lived our lives or how we feel when facing death, we should die fighting.

2 - I would say it's only rebellion against authority if one considers death to be an 'authority' - which I suppose it could, since authority means having control over another and making decisions that govern others' lives. In that sense, death is most certainly an authority, since we are incapable of going against it. So, by fighting against death in your final stages of life you would, in a way, be rebelling against a form of authority.

Hop that helps!

Live life to the fullest, even as old age and death nears. Do not give in but live strong even with one's infirmities.

I don't think its rebellion against authority as its rebellion against giving up as one nears the end.

in the colorful woods there develop right into a butterfly. the butterfly develop into an exceptional color of eco-friendly, at the same time as the cat entered the woods he talked about the butterfly dancing ontop of a flower with a tutu.
