Angels

They thought the job would be more musical:
Rainbows and trumpets. They’d burst
through clouds of marble streak with flame

and offer blinding demonstrations
of the ontological proof of God.
People would look up and say “Ineffable!”

Instead, they swooped through the mall
calling Ashley? Pammy?
fished Mrs. Baines’ wedding ring from the drain again,

and suspended the laws of phsics on the freeway,
while simultaneously fielding the collective pleas
of Sister Perpetue’s seventh grade;

Bauxite, they hiss. Cortez. Tequcigalpa.
Why don’t they just study? one angel would gripe to another,
She told them Latin America would be on the test.

Gradually, they stopped showing up.
They moved into studio apartments
and took day jobs with plants and animals.

You can spot a pair of them sometimes
at the back of the Greek diner,
giggling and whispering over fruit plates:

No, Timmy, really:
The principal export of Bolivia is lightning.
Or maybe they saunter downtown

at the end of the day, one jingling your keys, the other
tossing your lottery tickets into the gutter.
Later they’ll find their way to the dark little bar

hidden away below decks,
order cocktails named after movie starts
and try out the bed in your stateroom

on a liner that left exactly on time, after all.

Thanks for the query, and I am certainly of shrewish descent in relation to this challenge. I was once going to check out and write a poetic reaction however I am no longer equipped. Just faux that is in blankety clean verse. I skim the hoi polloi for the bizarre name however I had been neglecting Dahha, and Jellz, I have not glanced at Darbz in a at the same time. I leave out Jack D's poems in many instances!!!! SIN wrote anything cool previous and it was once resolved earlier than I bought there. If I would deliver the poets I like such a lot part the awareness I spend on Buk and Ian. then MAYBE I could think responsible for no longer being extra eclectic. I try to learn the whole thing through you, SIN, Love Child, Mek, Ma, Semper, Jack D, and I am definite I am forgetting any individual primary. At THAT mission I spend approximately five hours an afternoon in Yahoo 7 days every week and fail MISERABLY. So I will have to learn a number of "love is a flower" or "kill em all" crap to be reasonable??? Last I checked we were not getting paid for doing this? So a minimum of you recognize your poem has generated a robust response from me. Edit: Buk I want it had been that convenient. I am a magnet to hostility and attitudes of superiority. I can not support it however comply with the reduce of your steel. If I would eliminate the ones developments in ME then I could on no account darken your door once more.
